Aquatech BM is counting on its new compact multi-function bottle washer unveiled in Boucherville on Wednesday to double its turnover next year.

A Montérégie SME is investing $1.7 million to add an automated production line to its facilities. The money comes from loans provided by Fondaction ($1 million), Investissement Québec ($400,000) and Economic Development Canada for the Quebec Regions ($300,000).

“It is a scaled-down model that can go under or on the counter, whose doors can be opened in several ways and which can be on wheels,” explains Aquatech BM president Félix Bégin in an interview. It is designed for small spaces to clean both 10ml perfume bottles and multi-gallon containers.

Target customers for this new facility include microbreweries, hotels and dairy farms. According to the person who took over the company in December 2018, this bottle washer benefits from a competitive price, which is an important competitive advantage for this SME that exports to 85 countries.

“In terms of budget, the barrier to entry is much lower than a larger model, so it makes it easier to export,” he explains. We are almost everywhere in the world. I even sold machines to less stable countries like Haiti and Venezuela. Everything is made of stainless steel, no plastic. These machines are built to last.”

Promotion of the circular economy

A businessman touts the fact that his bottle washer supports the circular economy by allowing bottles to be recycled by cleaning them. Concerns about the environment and expanding bottle stocks are also contributing to sales.

“Container costs have also increased significantly, which benefits us,” he adds. When the bottles are two bucks, it’s worth washing them. Supply problems in recent years have also given us a boost.”

Approximately 95% of Aquatech BM’s sales are made outside of Quebec. The SME, founded in 2007, has been automating and digitizing since 2018, notably with the acquisition of a fiber laser, a laser welder and a press brake “With automation and electricity costs being low in Quebec, we will be able to get better quality while competing with companies , which are in markets where wages are lower,” believes Félix Bégin.

He mentions that turnover, which was around $860,000 a year when he took the reins of the company in 2018, has since tripled. As he plans to sell at least 150 units of his new compact multi-function bottle washer each year, he expects his sales to double next year.

The SME boss, who won the Coup de coeur award at the 2022 MercadOr Québec Export Gala, adds that the water bottle and canister washing project for the Canadian Armed Forces that his company is working on should also support its medium-term growth.
